A248 WINTER PALACE REVOLUTIONARY CHANDELIER
DESCRIPTION:
The first palace of the Russian Sovereigns, the Winter Palace on the banks of the Neva in St. Petersburg, was the seat of power of the Romanovs until the Revolution. In the nineteenth century, its fabled chandeliers and sconces dominated every room. They were Russian designs by renowned architect-designers like Stasov and Zakharov. In the glass-enclosed winter gardens, designed to create the illusion of summer in the midst of glacial winters, there were chandeliers and sconces of antiqued Silver Winter called the Palace Collection that has a warm antiqued silver finish, with brilliant icicle lead crystals and a rich darkened silver finish of moonlight. The velvety texture of the pieces and brilliance of the crystal is enthralling.
